Zesty.ai overview

Zesty.ai takes the latest developments in digital imaging and machine learning methods to build an accurate risk model of - and deliver real-time reports on - a particular property or portfolio. It has developed a Risk Analytics Platform driven by AI, computer vision and machine learning which helps its insurance clients to better assess and price risk. The platform leverages 130 billion data points, 140 million buildings, 325 million people and 85 institutional users.

Zesty's product range includes Zesty Batch, which enables users to upload a portfolio of properties, choose which features they want analysed, and receive the property data within 24 hours. It also offers the Zesty API, which offers access to data on a single property in real-time for evaluation, quoting, or underwriting purposes. In 2019 the company released an AI-powered property change detection product, called Z-Book, for the P&C insurance industry.

Zesty AI also uses artificial intelligence to deliver climate risks assessments for insurance companies. Zesty analyses a wide range of climate risks including wildfires, wind and hail storms..

In December 2018 Zesty.ai raised a $13m Series A led by Blamar, with participation from Plug and Play. It stated the money will be used to expand its team (specifically its data science, engineering and customer success departments) as well as ingest more data into its platform.

In 2019 Zesty partnered with both Aon and MetLife to enhance wildfire protection for homes.

Also in 2019, Zurich North America announced they had chosen Zesty.ai as the Silver Award winner at the Zurich Innovation World Championship. The startup was chosen from amongst 450 startups from 49 countries.

In June 2021 Farmers Insurance announced it had partnered with Zesty AI, integrating Z-FIRE, their wildfire risk scoring model, into its homeowners insurance underwriting processes. The Z-FIRE risk scoring model is a proprietary predictive risk evaluation platform that leverages high-resolution imagery, building and weather data, and AI to identify property attributes that may impact the level of a property's wildfire risk.

In September 2021 America's Amica Insurance partnered with startup Zesty AI to leverage the latter's predictive wildfire risk analytics solution, Z-Fire, to enhance its homeowners insurance product.

In March 2022 Zesty.AI raised $10M in venture debt financing. The fresh funds will help the company to grow its insurance portfolio and also expand its use cases in real estate.

In July 2022 Zesty.AI raised a $33M self-described Series B, though the round includes a mix of equity and debt financing.

In August 2022 Berkshire Hathaway announced it was expanding its current partnership with Zesty.AI to deploy its wildfire risk model, Z-Fire. The partnership extension comes as Zesty.ai's model has allegedly outperformed BH's own wildfire risk model.

In April  ZestyAI, announced that severe convective storms have joined the list of perils addressed by its risk analytics platform. According to Zesty that Z-HAIL and Z-WIND are the first AI models to give carriers hail and wind risk assessments that can be used in both underwriting and rating at the time of quote.

In April 2024 ZestyAI introduced Roof Age, a solution that uses building permits and historical imagery to accurately determine roof age with over 90% accuracy and nearly 100% coverage across the contiguous US. This aims to help insurance carriers prevent losses, improve premium capture, and optimise inspections.
