Thimble

Thimble, formerly known as Verifly, began as an on-demand drone insurance for personal or commercial purposes. It now since expanded its offering, providing episodic, on-demand liability insurance (either for a week, a month or a year) across various professions, including beauty, fitness, cleaning and more.

The Thimble drone cover can be purchased from the app within two taps, with customers choosing their launch point and receiving a price immediately. Any drones up to 35lbs can be covered, with prices beginning at $10 per hour. There is no application or approval process, just certain restrictions on coverage dependent on location (e.g. airports), however pilots with authorisation (such as Part 107) can unlock the areas which they are allowed to fly. Its liability insurance has higher limit options of up to $10m.

In August 2019 Thimble partnered with InsureMyEquipment.com, a division of Heffernan Insurance, to provide general liability cover to its clients in film, music, photography and production.

In October 2019 Thimble raised $22m in Series A fund led by IAC. At the same time, the company announced it was rebranding from Verifly to Thimble, as the original brand only represented their first drone offering.

In June 2020 Thimble partnered with Hiscox to offer short-term liability insurance, available by the hour, day or month.

Later that Summer, in August, it was announced that Thimble was to take part in the fifth cohort of Lloyd's Lab.

In December 2020 London Underwriters announced it had partnered with Thimble, enabling London Underwriters agents to offer more flexible coverage and quotes in just a few minutes.

In April 2021 Bold Penguin partnered with Thimble, adding flexible hourly coverage to the Bold Penguin Exchange via APIs.

Jay Bregman, the founder and CEO of Thimble, previously founded Hailo, a ride-hailing app, and eCourir.co.uk, which was acquired by the Royal Mail for an undisclosed amount.

Thimble have received funding from Social Capital, Slow Ventures and LocalGlobe, amongst others.
