The CareVoice overview

The CareVoice is a Shanghai-based, early-stage health Insurtech startup striving to bring better healthcare experience to its customers. Soon after its creation in 2014, the venture launched the first independent mobile social platform that provides trusted, community-sourced ratings and recommendations on top-quality healthcare services to its users. The platform is geared towards affluent Chinese women and their families, who are the primary consumers of the fast-growing private health sector.

In 2016, The CareVoice launched what is now its core product: a SaaS membership services solution integrated with its ratings/recommendations platform for insurers and employers. The company already includes international and local insurers such as AXA and Ping An amongst its clients.

After starting operations in Shanghai, The CareVoice now also operates in top Chinese cities witnessing a fast-growing private health sector, such as Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. It took an estimated $2m in sales in 2017, and has over 100 health partners and more than 15 insurer and pharmaceutical clients. Its insurance clients include Ping An Insurance, Zhong An Online P&C Insurance, The People's Insurance Company of China, AXA and Generali.

In May 2018, the company showed the first signs of its Asian expansion after launching its 'Care' offering in Hong Kong. The Care insurance products target 'untapped market segments', and are created in collaboration with insurers to address specific wellbeing needs or medical risks. It also raised a $2.2 Seed investment round that year, which was used towards upgrading its product platform, accelerating its health Insurtech shift. The company also expanded its team to execute its signed B2B2C contracts and grow its pipeline.

In partnership with Generali Hong Kong, StartupCare Hong Kong provides tailor-made employee health benefits solutions for SMEs with comprehensive health services and cost-effective medical plans for all ages and demographics, with access to a broad network of 2500+ medical providers through Generali’s partnership.

In September 2019 The CareVoice launched the Vibrant Program, an employee benefits program, which uses wearables, gamification, inventive programs and more to encourage engagement and productivity within companies.

In August 2019 The CareVoice announced it had secured $10m in Series A funding (led by Lun Partners Group), and that it was planning to be in a total of five markets within 18 months, with Malaysia being the next likely target.

In September 2019 The CareVoice revealed its latest product, The CareVoiceOS. Available in China and Hong Kong, the operating system enables insurers to deliver cost-effective health plans that are personalised to their customers.

The CareVoice announced further expansions to its “Care” insurance portfolio in Hong Kong in April 2020. SportCare, which targets sports enthusiasts, soft-launched with AXA in Hong Kong. SportCare offers medical insurance coverage, as well as services to enhance and reward performance, and supports the prevention of injuries. It joined Vibrant, a heart-rate based activity tracking program.

CEO Sebastien Gaudin announced in July 2020 that The CareVoice was to expand into Europe and completing a 3-month business development exploration phase. As part of the move, The CareVoice is joining the insurtech and healthtech program Digital Health Innovation Programme.

In November 2020 The CareVoice announced it was expanding in Southeast Asia after successfully developing the mainland China and Hong Kong markets, with nearly 25 insurance clients. Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand are the entry markets, and The CareVoice has already secured a number of local channel partners.

In February 2021, The CareVoice partnered with Cigna Hong Kong to launch Blüüm Woman, a flexible medical protection solution with digital health services to help Hong Kong-based women.

In September 2021 The CareVoice revealed it has secured more capital as part of its Series B round. The round is expected to close in the next six months, with the company aiming to raise an 'eight-digit US dollar figure'. The company has indicated some of the new funds will be allocated to some of the company's upcoming acquisitions, although details on that are scarce at the moment. The CareVoice will also use the funds to roll out its new API-based infrastructure and health ecosystem.
