Supercede (formerly Riskbook) overview

Supercede (formerly Riskbook) is a London-based startup aiming to build a better reinsurance marketplace by delivering a central digital platform for brokers and reinsurers to drive a closer alignment between distribution and capacity, and slash operational costs. It is currently in open beta.

The startup provides an independent, hyperconnected reinsurance marketplace for efficient matching of risk and capital, ensuring an efficiency and simplicity for brokers to market risks, and underwriters to find risks that pertain to their growth and goals.

Despite only being launched earlier that year, Supercede won ACORD InsurTech Innovation Challenge's Europe competition, judged by Rainmaking, Lloyd's of London, AXA XL and more. As a result, the startup was entered into the global finals in Chicago and New York.

In April 2020 Supercede was approved by the specialist Lloyd’s of London reinsurance marketplace as a recognised reinsurance e-placement tool.

In September 2020 Supercede raised a £2m Seed round from Seedcamp, Episode 1 Ventures and MMC Ventures. Supercede will use its fresh funding to make key hires, develop its digital placement platform, and scale to meet the needs of its cedent, broker, and reinsurer customers.

In February 2021 the startup changed its name from Riskbook to Supercede. It also announced it was making reinsurance placements free, and that it had added additional functionality that automatically prepares exhibits, checks for errors and compares year-over-year developments in premiums, claims and more.

In March 2021 Supercede partnered with technology partner Trace Isys to help provide a seamless solution for the entire reinsurance lifecycle.

In April 2021 Lloyd's Lab selected Supercede as part of their sixth cohort.

hyperexponential and Supercede announced in February 2023 the two companies have combined their SaaS platforms with the aim of reinvigorating reinsurance dealmaking and to help price emerging risks. As well as improving productivity, the tech also improves accuracy of risk pricing.

Supercede raised $15m Series A funding in July 2024, led by Alven, with contributions from Mundi Ventures.
