Pluto overview

Pluto is a travel insurance provider based in London. The idea behind Pluto is to make travel insurance as quick and simple as possible, cutting out the jargon and presenting price changes as users change their preferences.

Founded in 2016 and formerly a financial advisor chatbot called Meet Mia, Pluto pivoted and launched in mid-December 2018, aiming to close the gap between the number of millennials travelling without insurance. It has since secured a pilot with a top UK challenger bank.

Backed by Zurich and supported by the Financial Conduct Authority's Innovation Sandbox, the startup enables customers to receive a quote in 60 seconds (or three minutes for a custom-built policy) and manage their policy via Facebook Messenger.

With every policy the startup sells, £1 is donated to a charity, helping to reduce the negative impact of tourism on the environment and local communities.

In June 2019 Pluto was announced the winner of British Airways' "Future of Flying" competition. Later that same year, Pluto partnered with Blink to provide flight delay cover.

In September 2019, Pluto announced that it was launching its new mobile app, and integrating Babylon Health into its services to ensure its users can receive on-demand medical help and prescriptions. The insurtech also announced a new funding round via Seedrs.

In January 2020, Pluto partnered with Yolt, the money management app, opening its services to more than a million new customers.
