Nexar overview

Co-founded in 2015 by ex-Yahoo employees Bruno Fernandez-Ruiz and Eran Shir, Nexar is an app designed to guard users against potential road collisions.

Headquartered in Tel Aviv, Nexar connects cars in an open vehicle-to-vehicle network through individual dash-cams that detect and track what is happening on the road. However, more than just a means for recording and uploading future road accidents, the Nexar app also runs a deep learning platform capable of analysing the data from its sensory network in order to locate (and make drivers aware of) potential collisions.

Nexar's network of drivers grew tenfold from 2018-2019, spanning across 70m miles every month across more than 1,000 cities.

The company raised $52m in Series C funding in April 2020, which was led by Corner Ventures and saw additional investment from insurers Nationwide and Sompo, amongst others. Nexar plans to use the funds to expand its business reach and development efforts.
