Find out moreAllstate is the largest publicly held personal lines property and casualty insurer in America. Allstate offers car insurance, home, property, condo and renters insurance, plus insurance for recreational vehicles like motorcycles, boats and more.
Allstate has partnered with Uber since 2018 to protect ride-share drivers and passengers by providing commercial auto coverage for Uber drivers and riders in multiple states across the US.
In 2018, Allstate showcased its commitment to innovation by introducing AI to improve the customer experience. On top of this, they introduced Monthly Income Term, a new type of life insurance policy that reimburses customers monthly in the event of a loved one passing away.
Across 2019 and 2020 Allstate's focus has grown on usage-based insurance (UBI). It has two brands: Drivewise, which offers discounts that are behaviour-dependent, and Milewise, which is priced based on per-mile driving use.
In March 2020 Allstate and Ford formed a partnership, enabling Ford's drivers to share driving data with Allstate for its telematics-powered mileage tracking product.
The following month, Allstate announced it would give back over $600m to its personal auto customers, given the 'unprecedented decline in driving' due to Covid-19.
In June 2020 it was revealed Allstate was planning to lay off thousands of jobs across all levels, mainly in Northern Ireland. At the end of 2019, the company had reported 45,780 employees. The move is thought to be due to the company preparing for a 'price war' against competitor State Farm.
In July 2020 Allstate announced its intentions to buy National General Holdings for around $4bn in cash, in order to scale its auto insurance business.
In January 2021 Allstate revealed it was selling its Allstate Life Insurance Company to entities managed by Blackstone for $2.8bn. CEO Tom Wilson referenced its strategy to focus on market share and support in its personal P&C lines as a reason for the move.
In May 2021 Allstate partnered with online will provider Willful, enabling Allstate customers to easily access estate planning tools. The two companies hope to help the 59% of Canadians who want to be more prepared to face emergencies after Covid-19.
